Young photography award winners announced

Four young aspiring photographers from the region are set to get help from the professionals as winners of the 2018 PhotoEast Young Person’s Fellowship are announced.

Their work will be exhibited alongside global names in the world of photography at the second PhotoEast photography festival in May this year.

Suffolk teenagers Tom Allen, Bilal Bounit and Rose Gant, and Mya Fairweather from Norfolk, were selected from an impressive bank of submissions by art and photography students aged 16-19 from across the region’s colleges and schools.

Their prize is a bespoke professional mentoring programme by photography professionals including Mark Edwards, Associate Professor of Photography at the University of Suffolk and Gillian Allard, Ipswich-based winner of the Sky Arts Master of Photography 2017.They also have the opportunity to do work experience at London photography agency Panos Pictures.

The talented youngsters now have the chance to fulfil their own photographic ambition in response to the 2018 festival theme of Belonging:
